Combat Aging and Restore Youthful, Perky Breasts With a Breast Lift
Women’s breasts change over time, losing their youthful firmness and shape. While some women develop natural breast sagging (ptosis) with age, other women experience more significant sagging after pregnancy, breastfeeding, or weight loss.
A breast lift, or mastopexy, can dramatically improve the shape and position of breasts. Dr. Sadeghi performs breast lift, breast implants and other breast enhancement surgeries in the New Orleans area.
What Is a Breast Lift?
A breast lift is a surgical procedure performed to raise and tighten the breasts, restoring their youthful shape and position.
During a breast lift, excess skin is removed, and breast tissue is tightened. While a breast lift will not drastically change the size of your breasts, since it focuses on reshaping, it can be combined with breast augmentation (breast implants) or breast reduction.
There are several options for lifting breast tissue. During your consultation, Dr. Sadeghi will help you choose the correct technique for achieving your goals.
What Can a Breast Lift Improve?
Women with sagging breasts may lack confidence in their overall appearance, regardless of whether the laxity came with age, pregnancy, or weight loss.
After breast lift surgery, you can experience:
Firmer and Fuller Breast Appearance
Sagging breasts often feel elongated and deflated. Dr. Sadeghi can restore a more supple and attractive breast shape by lifting the breast tissue and eliminating excess skin. A breast lift can make the breasts appear as though they have been augmented when they have actually just been raised to produce a firmer and fuller look.
Improved Nipple Projection
Women who experience breast ptosis often have downward-facing nipples. By reshaping the breasts, Dr. Sadeghi can give the nipples a more natural-looking forward projection. Additionally, a stretched or elongated areola can be resized, reshaped, and repositioned.
Youthful Breast Appearance
Breast sagging is incredibly common. Countless women have experienced it, and most long for the youthful, perky appearance they once enjoyed. A breast lift is highly effective for restoring the desired look and feel.
Reduced Skin Chafing
Saggy breasts can cause skin irritation beneath the breasts due to the rubbing of the excess skin. Once the breasts are lifted, they will no longer rest against the skin at the top of the ribcage, thereby eliminating the opportunity for painful chafing.
How Are Breast Lifts Performed?
Breast lift surgery is an outpatient procedure performed under general anesthesia. The operation usually takes around three hours to perform.
The incisions used for your breast lift will depend on the extent of breast ptosis.
Traditionally, your breast lift will involve one of the following:
Donut incision
Two concentric incisions are made around the areola — the circular pigmented skin surrounding the nipple. Here, excess skin is removed, and breast tissue is tightened. Incisions then are closed.
Lollipop incision
An incision is made around the areola that continues down the lower pole of the breast to the breast crease — resembling the shape of the lollipop. Skin is removed, and tissues are tightened before the incisions are closed.
This technique allows for a more significant lift than the donut incision.
Anchor incision
The lollipop incision is expanded to include a horizontal incision across the breast crease (inframammary fold). This incision option resembles an anchor or an inverted-T.
This technique allows for the most significant amount of correction and often provides the best shape post-lift.
Should I Combine My Breast Lift With Other Breast Surgeries?
Breast lift surgery addresses aging or weak breast tissues; it does not significantly address breast size. Many women choose to combine their breast lift with breast augmentation (to increase breast size) or breast reduction (to reduce breast size).
Additionally, many women choose to undergo a breast lift during their breast revision (secondary breast surgery) or Mommy Makeover surgery (a comprehensive breast and body contouring treatment).
How Much Does a Breast Lift Cost in New Orleans?
The cost of breast lift surgery varies widely depending on several factors, including surgical techniques, your surgeon’s experience, geographical location, combination procedures, and fees such as anesthesia, facility, and operating room expenses.
You will be given an accurate price estimate during your consultation with Dr. Sadeghi.
What Should I Expect After My Breast Lift?
How Long Does It Take to Recover After a Breast Lift?
Bandages or dressings will be applied to the incisions. You will need to wear a support bra or elastic bandage to minimize swelling and support the breasts as they heal. Typically, patients find this quite helpful for reducing pain and assisting the healing process.
A small, thin tube may be placed under the skin to drain any excess blood or fluid that may collect.
Dr. Sadeghi will provide instructions, including:
- How to care for your breasts after the procedure
- Medications to aid healing and reduce the chance of infection
- Concerns to watch for
- When to follow up with him
It is critical that you follow your post-surgery instructions when recovering from your breast lift procedure. While the results will be apparent immediately, swelling will take about a week to go away, and incisions will fade over time.
The breast lift recovery time is relatively short compared to more invasive procedures, and most patients can return to work within two to 14 days after the procedure.
Full recovery takes about six weeks.
Will There Be Scarring After My Breast Lift?
Because breast lifts involve incisions, scarring will occur, as scars are your skin’s way of building new tissues and healing a wound. That said, there are methods to minimize scarring.
Working with a skilled and experienced plastic surgeon like Dr. Sadeghi will reduce your risk of complications that may cause scarring. Dr. Sadeghi will also instruct you on how to treat your skin after surgery.
When it comes to scarring, not all breast lifts are the same. Dr. Sadeghi will recommend the most appropriate technique to address your concerns, including sagging, shape, and size. In general, the less you are trying to correct, the fewer incisions and scars you will have.

Frequently Asked Questions About Breast Lift Surgery
How much pain is associated with a breast lift?
Pain after a breast lift surgery is usually mild. Many patients experience some discomfort and soreness, which can be alleviated by prescribed or over-the-counter pain medication. Severe pain is very rare; if you do experience significant pain, do not hesitate to contact Dr. Sadeghi’s staff.
Removing your support bandages and bra after surgery can lead to more pronounced pain and less-than-ideal results. It is highly recommended that you wear a bra for most of the day and evening.
Will I be able to breastfeed after a breast lift?
Most patients are still able to breastfeed after a breast lift because the nipple is not removed. Because the ducts are left intact, the breast maintains its function. Please inform Dr. Sadeghi if you are planning on breastfeeding after your breast lift.
Does a breast lift include areola reduction?
You can choose to reduce the size of your areola during your breast lift. Dr. Sadeghi can give you an idea of what aesthetic results you can expect after your surgery concerning areola reduction.
