Male Breast Reduction Surgery

Reduce the Visibility of Male Breast Tissue and Attain a More Masculine Physique

Gynecomastia is a common medical condition that results in excess growth of male breast tissue. Men with enlarged breasts are often misdiagnosed as being overweight or out of shape. Therefore, they are given instructions on how to use exercise and diet to tone the chest area.

Unfortunately, true gynecomastia does not respond to diet and exercise. For many men, this begins a frustrating cycle of seeing little-to-no results, leaving them to feel less confident about their bodies.

Dr. Ali Sadeghi performs male breast reduction (gynecomastia surgery) for men in New Orleans, Louisiana.

What Is Gynecomastia Surgery?

Gynecomastia surgery is a specialized type of male breast reduction that reduces or eliminates excess glandular tissue and fat in the breast area.

What Are My Options for Gynecomastia Treatment?

Liposuction for Mild Cases of Gynecomastia in Men

Some cases of enlarged breasts in men are linked to small pockets of fat in and around the breasts. To minimize the amount of tissue trauma and recovery, Dr. Sadeghi often opts for liposuction as a standalone procedure.

Fat localization is only one consideration. If you do not have good skin elasticity, gynecomastia excision surgery is the best option.

Surgery for Moderate Cases of Gynecomastia in Men

Moderate cases of gynecomastia involve generalized fat and excess tissues in and around the breast area. Men with moderate to significant gynecomastia may also have skin laxity caused by aging or stretching of the skin.

This technique uses surgical excision to remove tissue, fat, and skin.

Combination of Surgery and Liposuction for Advanced Cases of Gynecomastia in Men

More advanced cases of gynecomastia involve pockets of fat and excess tissues. In these cases, Dr. Sadeghi opts for a combination of excision surgery and liposuction. Surgery resolves most of the concerns but can leave bulges of fat that are best removed with liposuction.

What Are the Benefits of Male Breast Reduction?

Gynecomastia treatment is recommended for many reasons. Many men turn to this surgery to:

Restore Masculine Appearance to the Breast and Chest Area

Breasts are considered a feminine feature. As such, men with enlarged breasts are considered to have more feminine qualities. Dr. Sadeghi not only corrects the enlarged breasts, but he also works to restore a masculine shape to the chest area. Our gynecomastia before and after pictures highlight how the procedure works to restore the chest area.

Increase Satisfaction With Efforts to Eat Right and Stay Active

Eating right and exercising needs to be a satisfying effort that shows results, or men will lose interest. Because gynecomastia is a medical condition, men cannot control breast shape with any amount of exercise. After breast reduction surgery, men feel more in control of their physiques.

Boost Confidence in One’s Appearance

Men pay special attention to how they look, and they commit time to taking care of themselves. When their efforts fall short, their self-esteem can be eroded. Gynecomastia surgery gives many men the extra boost of confidence to follow a healthy lifestyle and feel good about how they look.

Is Gynecomastia Surgery Right for Me?

While gynecomastia does not pose any medical concerns, it can wreak havoc on self-image and confidence levels.

Men may develop gynecomastia at any stage of their life (from puberty well into their golden years). This condition is commonly associated with a hormonal imbalance; however, it can also develop due to weight gain, some medication use, and drug use (including the use of anabolic steroids).

How Is Gynecomastia Surgery Performed?

Male breast reduction usually takes one to two hours to perform (depending on the techniques used) and is an outpatient procedure.

Surgical removal of excess tissue in the breast area of men is performed by making incisions in the armpit area, around the areola, and/or in the crease at the base of the breast.

Once the incisions are made, Dr. Sadeghi removes excess skin, fat, and breast tissue to reshape the breast and create a more masculine contour.

Dr. Sadeghi does his best to keep these incisions as small as possible so the resulting scars will be easy to conceal.

Liposuction may be performed at the time of the surgery, which may require additional incisions. Liposuction is performed by inserting a hollow tube through small incisions. The fat is dislodged and removed via suction.

How Much Does Gynecomastia Surgery Cost in New Orleans, LA?

The cost of gynecomastia surgery varies based on the extent of the surgery and technique. Additional cost variances include the price for facility, anesthesia, and other necessary aspects of the procedure. Dr. Sadeghi can provide you with an accurate cost estimate during your consultation.

Male breast reduction is considered an elective cosmetic procedure. Therefore, insurance will not help cover the costs. Financing options are available.

What Should I Expect After My Gynecomastia Surgery?

How Long Is Male Breast Reduction Recovery?

The length of your recovery after gynecomastia surgery is based on whether you need to have tissue removed or if liposuction is an adequate solution.

Recovery from surgery can take one to two weeks. During this time, fluid may build up in the tissues, causing swelling and tenderness. Dr. Sadeghi will recommend compression garments to reduce inflammation and ease your recovery. Exercise and other strenuous activities must be avoided during this time.

Recovery from gynecomastia surgery with liposuction alone is less extensive than surgical removal of tissues.

Does Gynecomastia Surgery Cause Scars?

You will have scars after gynecomastia surgery. These scars begin with a slightly pink color and fade to match your natural skin color; however, the scars will likely still be visible even when fully healed.

Liposuction scars are small enough that people only notice them upon close inspection of your skin.
