New Orleans Botox Surgeon
Frown lines, crow’s feet, wrinkles, and indentations are all visual hints that give away your age. These tell-tale signs of age are caused by the repeated movements of facial muscles over time. Luckily for you, you can prevent and remove some of these lines through BOTOX® Cosmetic, a non-invasive way to reduce signs of aging that leaves you with a naturally relaxed, youthful look. It’s one of the most popular appearance-enhancing treatments on the market today and doesn’t involve painful or expensive surgery.
Note: Dysport and Xeomin, two other brands of injected facial treatment, work in the same way that BOTOX® does.
More people than ever receive Botox treatments for both cosmetic and therapeutic reasons. Between 2000 and 2015, there was a 759% increase in the use of Botox for wrinkles. And that’s not even counting Botox’s other therapeutic uses—such as treat depression, sweaty palms or underarms, overactive bladder, twitching eyes, and migraines.
Dr. Ali Sadeghi of the Sadeghi Center for Plastic Surgery is a renowned cosmetic surgeon with decades of helping men and women reclaim their youth and health through Botox treatments. Dr. Sadeghi sometimes combines Botox with other procedures, such as dermal fillers or a face-lift, to achieve even more dramatic results.
How Do Botox Treatments Work?
Wrinkles are caused by the repetitive contractions of facial muscles over time, stretching and folding the skin millions of times over your lifetime until they leave permanent creases.
Botox treatments are carried out by injecting a very small amount of a type of bacteria called Clostridium botulinum into the facial muscles. This bacterium blocks the signals that connect nerves to facial muscles. If your nerve signals can’t reach your muscles, then the muscles won’t contract and will stop stretching and folding your skin. The treatment smooths out wrinkles and gives you a more relaxed, youthful appearance.
What is the Cost of Botox Treatments?
Patients often understandably wonder how much Botox costs. Botox is administered in units, with very small amounts of the bacteria mixed in solution. One unit of Botox costs between $15-$20. Generally, one area of the face needs about 20 units of Botox, but you could receive as few as eight or as many as 60 depending on your needs. As an estimate, Botox treatments in one area of the face could cost around $400.
The number of Botox treatments generally depends on the depth of your wrinkles or other facial characteristics. During a consultation, Dr. Sadeghi can evaluate the extent of the required treatment.

What Should I Expect Before, During, and After Botox Treatment?
Dr. Sadeghi will advise you to stop smoking and drinking a few weeks before your treatment. Abstaining helps prevent bruising.
When you come to the Sadeghi Center, we will do our utmost to make you as comfortable as possible in our luxurious and spa-like environment. The injections themselves take only a few minutes and are administered with a very fine needle.
After the injections, you should avoid any sort of exercise, laying down, or taking ibuprofen (or similar drugs) for the next six hours. You will also need to keep your head up and level (that is, don’t bend forward) for the next two hours. Don’t engage in any strenuous exercise until the next day. These precautions help to avoid bruising and prevent the movement of the solution into unwanted portions of the face. For example, you don’t want to wind up with droopy eyelids after your treatment.
Also, make sure to avoid taking any painkillers like ibuprofen for two weeks after surgery, and don’t drink alcohol for one week after surgery. These substances affect your circulation and can cause complications after your injections. You will probably need to wait seven to 14 days to see the full effects of your Botox treatments and each treatment. Then, be prepared to be amazed with the new you that you see when you look in the mirror or compare past photos of yourself.
Most people don’t have any side effects after treatment, but every once in a while, a patient will get temporary headaches, fatigue, or nausea. Don’t worry; any discomfort will go away.
Who Can Botox Help?
Youthful skin can improve your appearance and self-confidence in dramatic ways. Similar to makeup, cosmetic treatments are also a way of making ourselves look better. And it’s not just for celebrities. Consider Botox treatments if you have noticed any of the following when you look in the mirror:
- Crow’s feet around the eyes
- “The Elevens,” i.e., indentations between your eyebrows
- Forehead wrinkles
- Frown lines
- Under-eye wrinkles
- Creases between the mouth and nose
- Creases around the corners of the mouth
Some studies, such as the one published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology in 2009, suggest that Botox can even help address problems like depression and low moods. Your body uses a feedback system to regulate emotions; if you look sad, you’ll feel sad.
Botox prevents your face from assuming unhappy or frustrated expressions, which scientists have found can improve your overall mood and well-being. As such, some doctors recommend Botox as a therapeutic treatment for depression.
Satisfied patients will tell you that Botox has helped them look years younger by preventing some of the above-mentioned issues. Keep in mind that Botox can help remove wrinkles, but it is generally considered more of a preventative measure for signs of aging. This means that the best time to get Botox treatments is as early as possible: The sooner you begin Botox, the more you can preserve a youthful appearance.
Those who are pregnant or breastfeeding should wait to get Botox. Also, wrinkles caused by sun damage or gravity can’t be fixed by Botox. If wrinkles are caused by sagging skin, a facelift or brow lift from Dr. Sadeghi would be worth considering.
