Rejuvenate and Open Your Eyes With Blepharoplasty
As we age, our eyelids lose elasticity, the muscles beneath the skin weaken, and fatty deposits become more noticeable.
Together, these aging processes can lead to loose, crepe-paper-like skin on the eyelids, puffy bags under the eyes, and a lack of confidence in one of the most important facial features.
Men and women who would like to regain a more youthful look in the eye area or who are experiencing impaired vision from skin drooping over their eyes may choose eyelid surgery.
What Is Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)?
Eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, is a surgical procedure that addresses upper-eyelid hooding (upper blepharoplasty), lower-eyelid bags (lower blepharoplasty), and laxity around the eyes.
Blepharoplasty can be performed on the upper eyelids, the lower eyelids, or both.
Dr. Ali Sadeghi performs eyelid surgery for men and women in New Orleans.
What Are the Benefits of Eyelid Surgery?
Men and women undergo blepharoplasty to:
- Eliminate upper-eyelid hooding
- Reduce puffy bags beneath the eyes
- Eliminate dark circles beneath the eyes
- Increase the range of peripheral vision
- Create a double-eyelid crease (commonly desired by Asian patients)
Is Blepharoplasty Right for Me?
When men and women develop laxity in the upper or lower eyelids, it can make them look older than they are or constantly tired and worn out.
Blepharoplasty is ideal for individuals looking to tighten the skin around the eyes and restore a more youthful-looking gaze. Candidates for eyelid surgery should be in good overall health and have realistic expectations for their results.
What Happens During Eyelid Surgery?
Eyelid surgery is an outpatient procedure performed under general anesthesia. This treatment usually takes between one and two hours to perform.
Upper Blepharoplasty
Upper blepharoplasty makes small incisions in the folds (crease) of the eyelids, from which excess fat or tissue is extracted. The underlying muscles are adjusted to a higher position, which helps create a more rested appearance.
Lower Blepharoplasty
Lower blepharoplasty includes incisions in the creases below the eyelashes to remove extra skin and fat. This technique may also include small incisions in the lower lids to alleviate discoloration or puffiness.
Eyelid muscles are then carefully repositioned to create a more youthful look.
Double Eyelid Surgery
Many Asian patients consider blepharoplasty to create a crease in the upper eyelid, giving them a double eyelid.
How Much Does Eyelid Surgery Cost in New Orleans, LA?
The cost of your blepharoplasty will vary depending on the extent of your surgery and the techniques used. A combination of plastic surgery procedures, such as brow lift surgery, facelift surgery, or otoplasty (ear surgery), will also impact the total cost of your plastic surgery in New Orleans.
Dr. Sadeghi will provide you with an accurate cost estimate during your consultation that will take all factors into account. Financing options are available.
Is Eyelid Surgery Painful?
Eyelid surgery is performed under anesthesia. Therefore, patients should not experience any significant pain during surgery.
How Long Does It Take to Recover From Eyelid Surgery?
Following your procedure, bandages and ointment are applied to your surgical site.
You will have some discomfort over the following few days, which can be alleviated with cold compresses and prescribed pain medication. Some patients find that they are more sensitive to light following the procedure. Rarely, some patients experience a change in vision, or lid lag, a condition in which the lower lid droops. These side effects are temporary.
Most patients find that they can return to work after one week; however, results will continue to take shape for up to a few months. Protecting your surgical results with sunscreen will help lengthen their longevity.
